Ways to Pray for Your Pastor
Part of our camp mission is to serve New England churches. As we launch 2023 events, host church guest groups, and connect with various churches, it compels us to praise God for what he’s doing in these churches and through the ministry of faithful pastors. And that reminded us of a very important thing:
Praying for your pastor.
Often we think of the urgent needs or the struggling friend as the one to pray for. Yet the pastor of your local church, a frail and fallible human just like you, remains on the frontlines of ministry in many ways. Praying for your pastor is vital. As Paul reminds the church in Romans 15:30:
“I appeal to you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf…”
Your prayers are one crucial way of joining the Kingdom work of God in your church!
So with that in mind, here are a few ways to pray for your pastor:
- Pray for commitment to the Word of God and truth (2 Tim. 3:16-17, Heb. 4:12).
- Pray that your pastor would fear God and not be driven by pleasing others (Prov. 29:25).
- Pray that he would remain humble and teachable (Jam. 4:10, Luke 14:11).
- Pray that your pastor would glory only in the cross (Gal 6:14, Heb. 12:2)
- Pray that your pastor would proclaim Jesus Christ in all his teaching (Col. 1:28, Eph. 6:19).
- Pray that he would shepherd well (Acts 20:28, 1 Pet. 5:1-4).
- Pray that your pastor would get necessary rest and rejuvenation (Ps. 4:8, Is. 26:3, Ps. 103:5).
- Pray that you would be a joy to your pastor and not a burden (Heb. 13:17).
Now take a moment to pray for your pastor. Then text or email him to share something encouraging and let him know how you are praying for him. It will definitely encourage him.
