Praying Scripture for Your Kids
In a rut praying for your children (or a friend or family member)? We all get to that point at times. We don’t know what else to pray for. 1 John 5:14 tells us:
“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.”
How do we know we’re praying according to God’s will? Through His Word! So what better thing than to allow Scripture to guide your prayers? Even if you don’t have kids of your own, here are some ways to pray Scripture for those around you.
PRAY FOR…
- Their salvation (Rom. 10:1, Eph. 2:8-9, 1 Pet. 3:18, Gal. 4:4-5, John 3:16-17)
- The eyes of their heart to be opened to the gospel (Eph 1:17-19, Luke 24:31-32)
- Growing dependence on God (John 15:4-5, James 1:5)
- Quick confession and repentance of their sin (1 John 1:9-10)
- Increasing wisdom and discernment (Phil. 1:9-10, Prov. 1:7, Eph. 5:6-10, Rom. 12:2)
- Confidence to stand firm on the gospel (Col. 1:23, Gal. 1:6-7, Phil. 1:27)
- Desire to wholeheartedly seek God (Psalm 119:10, Mark 12:30)
- A life that honors the Lord (Col. 1:10-11, Eph. 4:1, Col. 4:5, Eph. 2:10)
- A heart that trusts in God and not in man (Jer. 17:5-8)
- God to strengthen them to endure in their faith (Col. 1:11)
- Satisfaction in God (Psalm 90:14, 63:1-8, 70:4)
How encouraging that God not only hears our prayers, but gives us His Word to guide us in ways to pray. Next time you’re reading Scripture, stop for a moment and use a passage to pray for someone you know.
